Loren M. Christenson, 90, of Plano, IL, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. He was born April 30, 1931 in Aurora Nebraska, the son of Lawrence Melvin and Mary Ellen (Wilson) Christenson. He married Janet May Harris on July 27, 1957 in Angola, IN. Loren served in United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He was a long-time member of the Plano American Legion Post 395, where he served as the Post commander in 1964, 1986, 2003, and 2004, finance officer for 15 years, chaplain for 21 years, honor guard member for 23 years and Chairman for Kids Christmas party for 27 years. Loren was also a member of Plano United Methodist Church. Loren served as the past president of the Plano Little League, Plano Sports Boosters, and was the Co-Founder of the Plano Lassie League. He was a proud coach, umpire, videographer, father, grandpa, friend cook and carpenter.
Loren is survived by two daughters, Lorna Anderson of Yorkville, IL and Lisa Grzanich of Sandwich, IL; one son, Lynn Michael (Brandy) Christenson of Gold Canyon, Arizona; seven grandchildren, Lane (Rachel) Sibley, Morgan (Taylor) Loux, Mitch Christenson, Chase (Brittnie Bowers) Christenson, Beau Grzanich, Samantha Grzanich, and Zach (Amber) Wilderspin; seven great grandchildren; Sisters Melva Jean (Ken) Meier of Denver, CO and Marilyn (Robert) Johns of Newark, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janet, and his infant brother.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Plano United Methodist Church in Plano, IL with Pastor Stevan Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano. Visitation be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on December 9, 2021 at United Methodist Church in Plano. Memorials may be directed to “Save the Windows” Campaign for the Plano United Methodist Church or the Plano American Legion Post 395.
