Leonard "Skip" Stahl

September 12, 1929 — March 30, 2023

Leonard “Skip” Stahl, 93, was born September 12, 1929, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 30, 2023.

Skip grew up on the family farm in Hinckley with his parents Earl and Agnes Stahl and his sister Florence. He attended Hinckley/Big Rock High School. He played basketball against one of the very first Harlem Globetrotters. He graduated from HBR in 1948.

Skip was recruited to play baseball by the St. Louis Cardinals yet was drafted by the US Army during the Korean War where he was wounded and awarded the purple heart.
Skip stated that the best day of his life was May 9th, 1953 when he married the love of his life Barbara Osbron. He was a member of the Plano American Legion. He went on to work for AT & T (Western Electric). In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf, baseball, spending time with the guys during coffee, and horse races.

Skips greatest joy came from his family. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Barbara Stahl of Sandwich; two daughters, Terri (Rick) Shaw of Sandwich, Tammi Westbrook of Somonauk; two granddaughters Jillian (George) Hill of Sandwich, Jacqueline (Chris) Hums of Montgomery, one grandson, Brandon (Vicki) Voga, as well as many great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence Berg, son in-law Doug Westbrook, and one granddaughter Crystal Voga.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Kaul officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hinckley, IL.
