Lawrence R. "Butch" Meaney

Lawrence R. "Butch" Meaney, 67, of Earlville, IL passed away peacefully Sunday, July 24, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born August 20, 1943 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Grubb) Meaney. He graduated from Saint Columbus and Marquette High School in Ottawa. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He married Marie Lynn Galletti on September 11, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Naplate, IL. He retired from L.O.F. in Ottawa with 32 years of services. He lived all of his married life in Earlville. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He enjoyed playing baseball and was a baseball umpire for many years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting and school events. He was proud of his Irish heritage and instilled that quality in his son and grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Elks Lodge in Mendota and the Moose Lodge. He was a Little League and Pony League Coach for many years. He was an Earlville Ambulance driver for ten years and was the first President of the Earlville Jaycees.

Butch is survived by his wife, Marie; his son, Bryan (Lynn) Meaney of Earlville; his grandchildren Katie, Nathan Meaney and Nicole Morones; one great granddaughter, Ava Lynn Morones; three sisters, Susan (John) Bailey of Ottawa, IL, Marlene (David) Husemann of Princeton, IL and Laurie Scott of Conroe, TX; his mother and step father, Mildred (James) Dunn of Princeton, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence and sister, Sharon Meaney.

Pallbearers will be Steve Bailey, Mathew Bailey, David Husemann, Scott Brewer, Nathan Meaney and Mark Varland and honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Fleming and Lyle Brad Smith.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 29, 2011 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Earlville with Fr. Chris Haake officiating. Burial will follow at St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery in Earlville. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church on Friday.
