Laverne "Fuzz" Gast

LaVerne K. "FUZZ" Gast, 88, of Earlville, IL passed away, Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in Mendota Community Hospital Mendota, IL. He was born December 30, 1925 in rural Earlville on the family farm the son of Clarence and Rena (Knoll) Gast. He graduated from Earlville High School in 1943. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He farmed in the Earlville area his entire life. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, the Earlville American Legion, the Mendota Elks Lodge #1212, the Mendota Moose Lodge, the Mendota V.F.W., and the LaSalle County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling, was an avid card player and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by one brother, Robert (Patricia) Gast of Earlville, IL; one sister, Phyllis (Stan) Nash of Naperville, IL; two brothers in law, Rod Kellogg of CA, and Charles Botts of Earlville, IL., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Elaine Kellogg, Marilyn Botts Lois Gast, and one great nephew Andrew Gast.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 415 S. East St. Earlville, with Rev. Tammy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Precinct Cemetery rural Earlville, with Military Honors by the Earlville American Legion. Visitation will be on Saturday in the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville or The Earlville American Legion.
