Kay Mathesius

Kay Mathesius, 80, of Earlville, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Allure of Mendota. He was born July 25, 1944, in Mendota, the son of Leslie William and Ruth (Groth) Mathesius. He married Becky Farley on June 10, 1967, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville. Kay was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Earlville American Legion, a former member of St. Petrie Lutheran Church, and the Ignitors Club. He proudly served in the US Army from 1965-1967. Kay was dedicated to his work, he farmed for many years, but trucking was his true passion. He was kind and generous, he never knew a stranger, just a friend he hadn’t met yet. Kay enjoyed Sunday rides and dinners with Becky when he wasn’t cruising around on his Gator with his best friend, Cooper.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Becky Mathesius; his daughters, Kim (Mike) Ohme and Jennifer “Jay” (Todd) Kunkel; his grandchildren, Drue (Alissa) Mathesius, Paige Johnson, Keegan (Emily) Johnson, Chase (Breann) Johnson, Peyton Johnson, Brooklyn Kunkel, and Morgan Kunkel; his great grandchildren, Kash, Tripp, Moxx, and Macc; his sister, Ruth Ann Tastad; his dog, Cooper; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, many aunts, and uncles.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church with Pastor Denise Rode and Pastor Darin Jones officiating. Burial with follow at Precinct Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to IHCC Hospice, Allure of Mendota, Horizon House, or the Earlville American Legion.
