Kate Malert, 88, of Sugar Grove, formerly of Plano, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center in DeKalb. She was born June 5, 1927 in Bolkow Christ Belgard, Germany, the daughter of Otto and Maria Garske. She married Ewald Malert on July 9, 1950 in Lübeck, Germany. Kate was a member of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, German D.A.N.K. of Oswego and the Aurora Moose Lodge. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and children but her greatest love of all was her family.
She is survived by one daughter, Ingrid Davis of Carlsbad, CA; five sons, Heinz Sandie Overman Malert of Plano, IL, Gary Marie Malert of Plano, IL, Ed Jeannie Malert of Batavia, IL, Rudy Suzette Malert of Plano, IL and Erich Janice Bass Malert of Fairfield, IL; five grandchildren, Lindsay, McCree, Austen, Dakota and Joey; three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Joseph Malert and many brothers and sisters, losing three brothers in WWII and her husband was a prisoner of war for many years.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove with Reverend Richard Mayer officiating. Burial will follow at Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at the church in Sugar Grove.
