Karl-Heinz Rolf Hofmann, 67, of Plano passed away Monday, October 1, 2018, with his loving wife by his side. He was born July 7, 1951 in Germany, the son of Rolf and Marianne (Mauersberger) Hofmann. He married Linda Jean Weiss on March 9, 1978 in Atlanta, GA. Karl served in the Luftwaffe in the early 70’s. He was a life guard for white water events during the 1972 Olympics. After traditional school, Karl began his apprenticeship as a cook for restaurants and hotels. In 1975, Karl was offered a two-year position in an Atlanta restaurant; into his second year, he met the love of his life, Linda. Karl has worked as a cook in a variety of establishments. In 1984, Karl and Linda moved their family to Illinois where Karl had accepted a Head Chef position. Karl was an avid Bayern-Munich fan. He enjoyed Mӓrklin Model Trains, cooking for his family, and playing the organ. Most of all Karl loved spending quality time with his family.
Karl is survived by his wife, Linda of Plano, IL; his mother, Marianne of Germany; his children, Mark Hofmann and Barbara Hofmann both of Plano, IL; his brother, Uwe Hofmann of Germany; his brother-in-law, Robert (Sue) Weiss of Palos Heights, IL; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rolf.
An open house in honor of Karl will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at his home at 3101 Alyssa St. in Plano, IL. Karl will be laid to rest in Germany. For more information or to sign the online guest book, go to
