Karen L. Wasson, 67, of Somonauk, IL passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at her home in Lake Holiday. She was born July 8, 1944 in Streator, IL the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (Renn) Heinbuecher. She married James Wasson on June 5, 1965 in Streator. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, former member of Somonauk Jr. Woman’s Club, a Sunday school teacher and a Girl Scout leader. Karen worked as a hairdresser for over 30 years then ventured into the Subway sandwich business in 1994 with her husband and family and successfully owns and operates nine stores. Her most cherished job was spending time with her four grandchildren and spoiling them rotten.

She is survived by her husband, James of Somonauk; one daughter, Mandi (Adam) Barta of Somonauk; one son, Greg (Jenny) Wasson of Somonauk; four grandchildren, Hannah Wasson, Parker Wasson, Regan Barta and Brody Barta; two sisters, Jan Hartman of Ottawa, and Mary Ann Elias of Streator; one sister-in-law, Judy (Hank) Rickelm of Somonauk and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jimmy Heinbuecher.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, Father Thomas Brantman officiating. Burial will follow and St. John Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday July 15, 2011 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Open Door Rehabilitation in Sandwich, IL or the charity of ones choice.
