Karen Lee Martin

November 16, 1941 — May 15, 2024

Karen L. (Orr) Martin, 82, of Yorkville, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. She was born November 16, 1941 in Mendota. The daughter of the late Henry and Annette (Eckart) Orr. During Karen’s teenage years, she loved to swing dance and sing. She also enjoyed working as a waitress at their family-owned restaurant, The Century House, which was located in Earlville and owned by her parents from 1957-1972. During her breaks at The Century House, she loved to sing “Way Word Wind” and “Wheel of Hurt” to their guests. Karen was a strong, independent, hard-working woman. She worked at National Metalwares located in Aurora for over 30 years. Karen was very family oriented. She loved family gatherings, holidays, anything to get everyone together. She cherished making memories from those moments in her life. During her retirement years, Karen loved to play card games and watch classic television shows. MeTV was her favorite channel. She also loved listening to music. A few of her favorite songs were: “Its only make believe” by Conway Twitty, “Feels so right” by Alabama and “The Wanderer” by Dion.
A special thing Karen loved to do was send her family greeting cards whether it was a holiday or their birthday. She always called and sang you Happy Birthday as well. Karen was an amazing woman. She was full of love and laughter. She will be truly missed by all that knew her.
Karen is survived by her sons, Lynn (Cindy) Gibson, Dale Gibson, Rodney Gibson, David (Tammy) Gibson, Randy (Jenny) Martin; brothers, Dennis Orr, John (Robin) Orr, Stan (Jane) Orr; six grandchildren, Amanda, Christena, Christopher, Brandon, Icelynn, Arylynn; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at a relatives residence. Please call (630) 405-4525 for details.
