Joy Janet Murphy Tuftee

Joy Janet (Murphy) Tuftee, 83, of Yorkville, IL passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at her home. She was born September 20, 1930 in Sandwich, IL the daughter of Joseph J. and Ellie (Haas) Murphy. She married Robert Tuftee on June 4, 1952 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, IL. Joy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk. She graduated from Somonauk Community High School in the class of 1948. Joy went on and graduated from Copley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. She worked as a Registered Nurse in the Sandwich, IL hospitals until her retirement in 1988 after 35 years of service.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Tuftee of VanAlstyne, TX and Brian (Debbie) Tuftee of Kerrville, TX; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane Turney of Somonauk, IL; one brother, G. Dennis (Mary) Murphy of Newark, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, her brother, Joseph E. Murphy, a brother Paul in infancy, and most recently her daughter, Kathleen St. Jacques, who passed away on December 19, 2013 in El Paso, TX.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk with Pastor Arlyn Tolzmann officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at the funeral home in Somonauk.
