John Edward Stein, 70, of Somonauk passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Heritage Health in Mendota. He was born September 25, 1945 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Edward Herbert and Naomi A. Phelps Stein. John was a proud member of the US Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. He was an avid HAM Radio enthusiast. John enjoyed serving his church community in Louisiana.
He is survived by his mother, Naomi of Viroqua, WI; three sons, Travis Stein of Iowa City, IA, Torrey Jennifer Stein of Somonauk, IL and Tysen Stein of Leland, IL; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Noah, Emily, Symone, Emma and Patrick; five sisters, Linda Miller of Corpus Christi, TX, Donna Joe Niles of Lafarge, WI, Cindy Marlin Kauffman of Lebanon, OR, Deborah Fraizer of Muscoda, WI and Carol Philip Rachuj of Kingston Springs, TN.
He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, Connie Ferrell and one brother, Phillip Stein.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Palestine Cemetery in Iuka, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
