John H. Pfeifer, 83, of Somonauk passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at his home in Lake Holiday. He was born June 10, 1930 in Chicago, IL the son of Henry and Mary (Furst) Pfeifer. He married Donna Marie Funk on November 14, 1953 in Chicago, IL. Donna passed April 1, 1995. On May 19, 1996 in Melrose Park, IL John married Jeanette Chabowski. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Somonauk, earlier he was a member at St. John’s Lutheran in Chicago and Apostles Lutheran Church in Melrose Park. John was on the Board of Education for Apostles Lutheran School for 15 years and a Boy Scout leader for 2 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Somonauk, IL; one daughter, Susan Marie (Manny) Gutwein of Aurora, IL; one son, David John Pfeifer of Berkley, MI; four grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Zinner of Chicago, IL; one step-daughter, Diane (Joseph) Hart of Buckingham, IL; two step-sons, Ralph (Tammy) Chabowski of Melrose Park, IL and Robert (Laura) Chabowski of Cullman, AL; four step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Henry Pfeifer.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 and on Friday, August 6, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, with Reverend Arlyn Tolzman officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in MT. Emblem Cemetery, 520 E. Grand Ave., Elmhurst, IL. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Somonauk, Unity Hospice or the charity of your choice.
