John Alan Hooper, 68, of Sandwich entered eternal life on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born on December 8, 1945 in Oak Park, the son of Alfred and Agnes (Ahern) Hooper. He married Mary E. Lundeen on March 10, 1973 in Sandwich at Salem Lutheran Church. John was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Naperville for 27 years. Since 2002, he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, serving as assisting minister, usher, fellowship and hospitality committee and Joyful Noise Choir. He also served as a past president of the Somonauk Lions Club. John was an avid bowler, golfer and was an outgoing person with friends, but his greatest love was his family.
John is survived by his wife, Mary of Sandwich; his four children: Rev. Brian (Rev. Maren) Hooper of New Berlin, WI, Gregory (Robin) Hooper of Woodridge, Bradley (Rev. Janelle) Hooper of Sugar Land, TX and Kate (Christopher) Mosher of Oswego; eight grandchildren and twins to be born: Norah, Benjamin, Joseph, Sophia, and Soren Hooper, Marykate, Annalyn and Jackson Mosher; his sisters: Shirley (Jerry) Keller and Virginia Helm; his brother: Robert (Louise) Hooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 235 S. Green St. in Somonauk, with Pastor William C. Weidenbach, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at the church and also from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday before the service at the church.
