John W. Carls

John W. Carls, 75, of Sandwich, IL passed away, August 16, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 10, 1938 in Rochelle, IL the son of Simon G. and Margaret H. (Dicus) Carls. He married Cheryl Black on March 16, 1996 in Sandwich IL. John was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. He owned and operated Si and Johnny’s Service in Hinckley IL, and later owned the Coral Truck Stop in Plano. He also worked at Carlson Oil Company in Newark. After retirement he delivered flowers and worked at Sandwich Floral Shop with his wife and daughter. John enjoyed the Sandwich Fair, both working and attending it for most of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl of Sandwich; two daughters, Vanessa (John) Fletcher of Paw Paw, Sarah Ellis of Sandwich; two sons, Paul Ellis of Ottawa, Eric Ellis of Madison WI; one honorary son, Trevor Hall of Sandwich; several nieces and nephews; one great niece and one great nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich with the Pastor Wayne Derber officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 until time of service at11:00 a.m. and a celebration of his life immediately following at John and Cheryl’s home. Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, Edwards Cancer Center or Open Door Rehabilitation Center of Sandwich.
