Jean D. Wegener, 88, of Somonauk, IL passed away Friday, December 11, 2020 at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in Elgin, IL. She was born November 24, 1932 in DeKalb, IL the daughter of Ralph and Ellen (Hickey) Herrmann. She married Donald A. Wegener on August 23, 1952 at St. Mary’s Assumption Church in Maple Park, IL.
Jean and husband Don moved to Somonauk in 1952. Being a devoted wife of 68 years and mother to her 10 children gave her great joy. Jean had a great faith. She was devoted to a life of prayer in the rosary, prayer groups, and devoutly attending Holy Mass. She loved her community and attended many parish functions. Providing pies or cakes for benefit dinners, a dish to pass at funeral luncheons, booster activities, and annually attending the Sandwich Fair. Jean was a dedicated partner with Don in farming and was employed by the Somonauk School District as a bus driver for 35 years. She greeted and treated her special riders like her own children. Jean’s favorite time was spending it with her family and friends visiting, on the patio, taking in the sun, watching the birds, being outdoors planting flowers, growing her plants and making rosary. All were welcomed around the Wegener dinner table with a hug.
She is survived by her children Cheryl (Jim) Elder of Hampshire, IL, Maryellen (Bud) Norcross of Rochelle, IL, Peggy (Brad) Strever of Somoanuk, IL, Joan Francis of Mendota, IL, Julie (Randy) Anderson of Sheridan, IL, Kim (Brian) Goodman of Monument, CO, Jim (Patty) Wegener of Hudson, WI, Chris (Mindy) Wegener of Sandwich, IL, Nick (Kelly) Wegener of Somonauk, IL, Diane Wegener of Rochelle, IL; 43 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren; her sister Patricia Sherman of East Moline, IL; sister-in-law Pat Herrmann of Shabbona, IL, Doris Hall of Maple Park, Susan Knodle of Scottsdale, AZ; brother-in-law David (Gerda) Wegener of Rochelle, IL, and Michael Tierney of Elburn, IL.
She is preceded in death by her husband Donald A. Wegener; her parents; brother Vernon R. Herrmann; son Joe Wegener; son-in-law Robert Francis; infant granddaughter Melanie Rose Anderson; and infant great grandson James Adam Rahe.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Somoanuk, IL with Father Kevin Butler officiating. The Funeral Mass will be live streamed on the Turner-Eighner Funeral Home & Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. Due to Covid-19 concerns there will be no receiving line offered at this visitation. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be sent to The Open Door in Sandwich, IL, Somonauk Education Foundation, or Perpetual Masses are appreciated for the repose of the Soul of Jean Wegener.
