Jay Andrew Haas, 54, of Somonauk, IL passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at his home. He was born June 16, 1966 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Thomas and Madelyn (Dolder) Haas. Jay was a bricklayer by trade and a member of the Local 74 Bricklayers Union. He loved to cook and fish, and was an exceptional hunter of fresh asparagus, having in his custody the “secret asparagus map” given to him by his father many years earlier. He held a self-awarded honorary degree in Beer-Drinking 101 from the University of Hard Knocks, and his greatest love of all was spending time with his kids and family, most especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Michael (Melissa) Haas of Louisville, KY; two daughters: Michelle Hunt of Marseilles, IL and Brittany Haas of Ottawa, IL; seven grandchildren: Dylan, Kaleb, Karter, Michael, Harper, Kole and William Jr.; his mother, Madelyn Crouch of Somonauk, IL; three brothers: Bruce (Deb) Haas of Columbia, SC; Brad Haas of Orlando, FL; and Jeff (Shelley) Haas of Homer Glen, IL; and the mother of his children, Connie Reppine, of Earlville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Haas; his stepfather, John Crouch; and his sister, LeeAnn Haas.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 18, 2020 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. The family asks that you do your best to observe the CDC guidelines and recommendations by wearing a face mask and practicing social distancing as much as is possible.
