Jannette Towne Buckley Nesson, 94, of Plano, IL passed away, Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Sandwich. She was born November 28, 1919 in Evanston, IL the daughter of Warren and Emma (Towne) Buckley. She grew up in Evanston, IL and greatly enjoyed the time she spent out with the horses on the Plano farm. Jannette attended the University of Wisconsin, where she was the first woman to major in agriculture. Her extracurricular activities included horses, organizing the University’s horse show and flying. Jannette met her husband Vilas Arthur Nesson at college. They were married on June 13, 1942 and they spent the next 49 years together. She was a member of Community of Christ Church in Plano, also known as The Stone Church, former member of The Methodist Church in Plano, and Congregational Church in Yorkville. Jannette was the first female member of the Kendall County Board, where she spearheaded the formation of The Kendall County Human Services Department. She was an honorary deputy for the Sheriff’s Posse, an early supporter and volunteer of the Kendall County Food Pantry. She founded the Senior’s Lunch Program at the old YMCA on Hale St. in Plano which was the predecessor to the Beecher Center in Yorkville. As one of the first to import Landrace Pigs, Jannette helped lay a foundation for the modern Pork Industry. Also, Jannette pioneered and promoted the showing of Arabian Horses and received the Hereford Breeder of the year award by the American Hereford Association.
Jannette is survived by two sons, Vilas Buckley (Karen) Nesson of Plano and William (Ethel) Nesson of Sandwich, 7 grandchildren, Julie (Brandon) Van Dover, Erika Stoker, Abby (Waldy) Alvarez, Nicholas (Megan) Nesson, Dusty (Karlie) Nesson, Michael (Crystal) Nesson and Jacqueline (Scott) Adams; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Jo Shaw of Hobbs, NM, and several nieces and nephews.
Jannette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vilas in 1991, one brother, Arthur Buckley and two sisters, Nancy Pack and Susan Roth.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday May 17, 2014 at The Community of Christ Church, 320 S. Center St. in Plano, IL also known as The Old Stone Church.
