James E. Marshall

James E. Marshall, 82, of Yorkville, IL passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1944 in Marion, Indiana, the son of Warren and Mary (Shepherd) Marshall. He married Joanne Behrens-Prickett on May 25, 1985 at their lake house at Beaver Dam Lake in Claypool, Indiana. He graduated from Marion High School in 1962, then went on to graduate from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis in 1964, becoming a member of Pi Sigma Eta Fraternity. He worked at Diggs Funeral Home in Marion, then served in the US Army from 1965-1967 where he was a Permanent Party at The US Military Academy at West Point, Chief of the 5th Grave Registration Correction Evacuation Station in An Loc, Vietnam. He was finally stationed at Brooke General Hospital in the morgue at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio. He was a member of McCulloch 737 Lodge in Marion as a freemason, where he was a member for more than 50 years. He was a past member of the American Legion Post 60 in Marion, then carried on his membership with the American Legion Post 489 in Yorkville, Illinois. He retired in 2006 after 22 years in the Marketing Department of Dairyland Insurance Company, where he made lifelong friendships. He served on the Governing Board of the Assigned Risk Plan in Illinois, as well as the Joint Underwriting Association of Missouri. Most of all he loved being “Papa” and “Papa Lake,” and enjoyed attending dance recitals and sporting events. Jim had a passion for cooking where he was an excellent chef in which all family and friends always enjoyed especially his biscuits and gravy at the lake. Jim was one of a kind, he never met a stranger and had a genuine interest in everyone he met. When asked how he was he would respond with “Fat and Sassy,” and everyone loved his signature laugh!

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Joanne. His sons Mark (Beth) Prickett, and Dane (Andrea) Prickett. Four grandchildren, Ashley (Collin) Gillette, Mitchell (Tori) Prickett, Tyler (Kayla) Prickett and Brooke Prickett. Four Great Grandchildren, Cooper, Bostyn, Drayton Gillette and Colson Prickett. Numerous in laws, nieces and nephews. In addition, he loved spending time with his “lake family” at Beaver Dam Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Mary and his son Michael Prickett.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026 from 9:00am-11:00 am at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano with service to follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Kathy Watland officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Shriners Children’s Chicago Hospital where he volunteered as a clown putting smiles on children’s faces.
