James D. “Jim” Meier, 81, of Yorkville, formerly of Plano, IL, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 21, 1939 in Plano, IL, the son of Charles W. and Lena B. (Spiess) Meier, Jr. Jim married Barbara Walseth on December 14,1968 in Sandwich, IL. Barbara passed away on June 3, 1992. He later married Sheila A. Mack on September 15, 1995 in Niagara Falls, NY. Jim was a proud Veteran of the US Army, serving four years. He worked for the US Postal Service starting as a city carrier, then assistant Postmaster in Plano, he later became Postmaster in Waterman, IL. Jim also worked at Plano Centennial School for 29 years. He was a member of the Sandwich Moose Lodge. Jim enjoyed baking, working in his beautifully landscaped yard, and he was an avid Plano Reaper Sports fan. Jim and Sheila enjoyed spending winters in Florida for many years. He was known throughout the community as a kind neighbor, always willing to help others. Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sheila of Yorkville, IL; his four children, Tammie (Anthony) Johnson of Sandwich, IL, Traci (Tim) Lynch of Cumberland, RI, Teri (Dan) Hagedorn of Glencoe, IL, and Jim (Melissa) Meier, Jr. of Leland, IL; his stepson, Jeffrey (Shana) Vines of Sugar Grove, IL; his nineteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth (Melva) Meier of Lakewood, CO and William (Judi) Meier of Carthage, IL; his sister, Diane Borino of Newport Richey, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife of 23 years, Barbara, his daughter, Tina Smith, his brothers, Richard, Dwayne, Eugene, and Ronald, and his sisters, Delores Allen, Charlene Babbitt, Beverly, Marilyn, and Gloria Meier.

Private graveside service will be held in honor of James at Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, with Pastor Derek Johnsen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Plano Reaper Sports Boosters.
