James J. Hess, 79, of Sandwich, IL passed away Saturday, November 11, 2011 at Countryside Care Centre in Aurora. He was born June 6, 1932 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Gordon W. and Florence Anna (Rumney) Hess. He married Denise L. Towne on August 1, 1981 in DeKalb, IL.
When James was in high school he was employed for Ray Faltz in Somonauk, IL learning how to become a printer. He owned Plano Theater from 1969 until 1975, then worked for various theaters around Illinois and Iowa. He also worked for different printing companies in Danville and Hoopston, IL. He was an active volunteer for Sandwich Sports Boosters.
He is survived by his wife, Denise of Sandwich, IL; one step son, Sammy Joe Towne of Sandwich, IL and one sister, Nancy (Eugene) Spears of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren, Jordan Conduff, Anthony Towne and Chance Towne; one niece, Janet Lynn McClermon of Pine Island, FL; two nephews, Rich Edward (Candy) Spears of Bolingbrook, IL and Ken Edward (Kathy) Spears of Virginia Beach, VA and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
