Jack R. Walleck, 77, of Serena, Illinois passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. He was born October 23, 1936 in Chicago, IL. He was raised in Dayton and went to school in Dayton and Ottawa. Jack joined the Army in 1958 and became a member of the 101st Airborne Special Forces based in Frt. Campbell, KY. He was awarded a first place trophy for physical fitness during his training.

Jack was an avid student of Karate. He started his training with James Chapman at the Aurora YMCA in the 1960’s. He restarted his training with David Goddard and then with Tom Heriaud. Jack took third place at an Illinois State Karate Championships. He taught Karate at the Fox Valley YMCA in Plano, IL. Jack attended the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt. He also trained with Bob Corwin of the Yorkville JUDO Club and with Jean-Luc in Akido.

He was married on December 27, 1958 to June Peters of Ottawa and they happily spent the next 55 years together. Jack was employed at Caterpillar of Montgomery for over 30 years retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk.

He is survived by his wife June of Serena, one son Roger (Linda) Walleck of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Jackie (Alex) Lambros of Ft. Myers, FL and special family member, Scott (Becky) Francis of Sandwich, IL; three granddaughters, two grandsons, three great grandchildren; two brothers, Bob (Bea) Walleck of Brasseltown, GA and Les (Ann) Walleck of Dayton, IL, and various nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son Anthony Walleck, and his parents Aldrich and Dorothy Walleck.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk with Rev. Andrew C. Hougan officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, with a formal and final Bow by fellow Karate members at 7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be, Scott Francis, Tom Heriaud, Mark Nixon, Mike Peura, Dan Eckland and David Kurtz.
