Jack L. Smith, 95 1/2 years old, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on June 15, 2025, at The Pavilion on Main in Sandwich, Illinois. Born on August 9, 1929, in Galva, Illinois. Jack lived a life filled with love, laughter, and hard work. He was the son of Orville and Lillian (Hier) Smith.

Jack's professional journey included three dedicated years as a meat cutter at Smith's Market Grocery Store in Earlville. Beyond this role, he found great joy in farming alongside his wife, Evelyn A. Grandgeorge, with whom he shared a remarkable 70-year marriage. They were united in love on June 18, 1955. Throughout his life, Jack was also a proud Pioneer Seed dealer, further exemplifying his commitment to agriculture.

An alumnus of Sandwich High School, Jack was a standout track athlete. He proudly served in the National Guard as a Corporal in the Army, demonstrating his dedication and service to his country.

Jack was known for his great dry sense of humor and was deeply devoted to his family. He loved dogs throughout his life, nurturing a passion for raising border collies and competing in dog trials. He always enjoyed a cold Pepsi, a beverage that became a symbol of his simple pleasures.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; children: Linda (Terry) Miller, Barry (Diane) Smith, and Roger Smith; grandchildren: Chris Miller, Ryan (Amanda Rutherford) Smith, Jenna (Josh) Stewart, Katy Miller (Justin) Vallo, Brett (Alyssa) Smith, and Laura (Craig) Frieders; and great-grandchildren: Nora, Isaac, Harper, Jack, Elsa, Riley, Jameson, Lucy, Grace, Micah, Louise, and Teddy. He will also be remembered fondly by several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his grandson, Jonathan Miller.

A visitation will be held on June 20, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, located at 235 South Green Street in Somonauk, Illinois. The funeral service will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Oak Mound Cemetery at 11:45 AM.
