Irma Elizabeth Grady

Irma Elizabeth Grady, 103, passed away at 5:05 a.m. on January 7, 2018 at the Mendota Lutheran Home in Mendota, IL. She was born December 21, 1914 in Chana, IL, the daughter of Lester and Charlotte Cross O’Neill. She graduated from Somonauk High School in 1933. Irma married Harry King on July 3, 1935 and later married Donald “Doc” Grady on November 18, 1954. She retired from General Telephone Co. in 1978 after 23 years of service. Irma was a member of Federated Church in Sandwich, she was a retired member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association., and the Somonauk Alumni Association. She still had a sharp mind until her passing. One can only imagine the changes in the world she saw and experienced. Irma will be sadly missed but there is comfort in knowing she had a pretty good run.

She is survived by one son, Thomas Sammye King of LaSalle, IL; daughter-in-law, Debby King of Grain Valley, MO; five grandchildren, Cindy Jeff Saltzman of Sheridan, IL, Lesa King of Marseilles, IL, Stacey Chuck Collins of Eagle, CO, Erik Krissy King of Lake Holiday, IL, and Michael Tracy King of Lake Holiday, IL; three step grandchildren, Curtis King of Grain Valley, Mo, Cari McVay of Cedar Point, IL, and Tami McVay of LaSalle, IL; twelve great grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald Grady in 1989, one son, Michael in 2007, her siblings, Lillian, Harriette, Ione, Vivian, Norma Jean in infancy, Jim, Ed, and William, in infancy.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, with Pastor Dan DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the funeral home in Sandwich, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to research for age related macular degeneration and glaucoma or the charity of your choice.
