Irene M. “The Cookie Lady” Karp, 85, of Sandwich, IL passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 in Sandwich, IL at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 13, 1933 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Anthony and Bernice (Piotrowski) Kwiatkowski. She married Donald L. Karp on April 11, 1953 in Chicago, IL. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, IL. Irene was known for her homemade small cookies and mini custard puffs. She enjoyed collecting elephants and she had over 700 in her collection. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son, Wayne (Cindy) Karp of Leland, IL; one daughter, Gloria (Andy Paris) Carroll of Sandwich, IL; two grandsons, Billy and Donald Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, one son Bruce, and one brother, Anthony (Joan) Kwiatkowski.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 235 S. Green Street in Somonauk, IL, with Rev. Wayne Derber officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery Somonauk, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the church until the service at 12:00 noon.
