Hope “Meme” Frances Bowne, 79, of Plano, IL, found peace from her ongoing courageous health issues Monday, February 3, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family with the help of Joliet Area Hospice. She was born April 17, 1940 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Robert and Frances Ackley. Hope was united in marriage on January 9, 1960 in Oswego, IL to James “Jim” Anson Bowne and spent 44 happy years together. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
Hope and Jim owned and operated Bowne Jewelers in Plano for 42 years. She sold Tupperware for many years. Hope retired from Fox Valley Shopper after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Moose. Hope was a leader for both Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts. She loved to fly planes with her husband. Hope and her friends would get together once a month to play canasta for over 30 years. She looked forward to taking her mother to the Sandwich Fair, where she entered Frances’ vegetables and various produce. Hope enjoyed cooking, baking, antique shopping, gardening, ceramics, canning vegetables, family reunions but most of all she loved spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Kate (Cindy Newell) Bowne of MI; her sons, Matt (Kim) Bowne of TN and Mark (Jennifer Isham) Bowne of Plano, IL; her six grandchildren, Brandi Bowne of TN, Derick Bowne of TN, Tyler Wrona of Plano, IL, Cameron Bowne of Plano, IL, Zachary Bowne of Plano, IL, and Tristan Bowne of Plano, IL; two great grandchildren, Chasdon Bowne of TN and Mira Salmon-Wrona of IL; her brothers, Robert (Sue) Ackley and George Ackley both of Aurora, IL; her niece, Wendy Ackley of Aurora, IL; her nephew, Jeff Ackley and his sons, Wyatt and Virgil.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and best friend, Jim, her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Ackley, former daughter-in-law, Adrienne Brown.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, with Chaplain Jim McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the funeral home in Sandwich.
