Herman Hearn, age 96, passed away November 14, 2012. He was born April 1, 1916 near Pittsburg, IL the son of James VanCleve and Alpha Daisy (Deering) Hearn. He married Grace (Malone) on December 23, 1939 with whom he spent 54 years until her death in 1994.
Herman left home at the age of 16 to husk corn for a farmer in northern, IL. He did seasonal work for various farmers in central and northern, IL for the next 7 years, spending the winters at home with his parents in southern, IL. He then worked full time as a hired man until 1945 when he rented a farm in Victor Township where he lived for 25 years and raised his family. For many of these years he was a custodian and Sunday school superintendent at Suydam U.M.C. and a leader for the Victor 4-H club.
In 1969 he began work at Barber Green in DeKalb until his retirement in 1982. For 30 years he made his home in Sycamore and at the age of 85 went to live at Barb City Manor.
He is survived by four children, Janice (Les) Yauslin of Sioux Falls, SD, Ward (Cheryl) Hearn of Somonauk, IL, Nancy (Dewey) Morrison of Quincy, IL and Joe Hearn of Earlville, IL. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, his sister, Gladys Pulley of Marion, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Grace, sister Ruby Duffy and brothers, Raymond, Carl, Eugene, George and Clarence Hearn.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL, with Dr. Dennis Pulley officiating. Burial will follow in Victor Cemetery rural Leland, IL. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17th in the funeral home until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Barb City Manor of DeKalb or the Charity of one’s choice.
