Harold J. Gast, 86, of Earlville, IL passed away, Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at his home in Earlville surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 10, 1925 on the family farm rural Earlville the son of Herbert J. and Esther (Arndt) Gast. He married Linda Schmidt on March 11, 1947 in Earlville, IL. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, where he served on the council, ushered and was Treasurer for several years. Harold served on the Earlville CO-OP Board of Directors for 19 years. He was a former Drainage Ditch Commissioner and township clerk for Meriden Township for several years. He served on the LaSalle County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for many years. He was a past President of the Earlville Lions Club. A member of Mendota Elks Lodge #1212 for over fifty years. Past member of Earlville Country Club. Harold was a lifelong farmer in the Earlville area. He served on the Earlville School Board for many years. He enjoyed flying and was a part owner of the former Clearview Airport rural Earlville.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, one son John H. Gast of Sebastian, FL; one grandson, Daymon (Laura) Gast of Frankfort, IL; two great granddaughters, Avery and Addison Gast; one brother, Howard Gast of Earlville, IL; five sisters, Dolores Kaminky of Earlville, IL, Jean (Frank) Holmes of Rockford, IL, Wilma Lee (Dave) Johnson of MA, Karen (Royce) Kreul of Oregon, WI and Cynthia (Bob) Kreiser of Mendota, IL and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Dona Mae and Ramona.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church 415 S. East St. in Earlville, IL, with Pastor Del Keilman officiating. Entombment of Harold’s urn will follow in Precinct Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at noon in the church. Arrangements are being handled by Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville, IL. Memorials may be directed to the family in Harold’s name for a memorial project to be decided later.
