Harley Jack Hitchcock

Harley Jack Hitchcock, 85, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavillion in Sandwich, IL. He was born April 8, 1927 and raised in Arkansas the son of John Riley and Louchester Hitchcock. Harley married Ina Hawkins at a furniture store in Marked Tree, Arkansas on December 7, 1946. He proudly served in the United Sates Marine Corp. In 1964 Harley lost his job at the Singer Sewing Machine company in Truman, Arkansas for trying to organize a union. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Montgomery, IL in 1992. Harley was a dedicated union member of Local 145 UAW. While living in Arkansas he played guitar and sang with a traveling group in various churches and was on KTMN radio.

He is survived by his four children: James Harley (Cecilia) Hitchcock of Sandwich, IL, Pat (Tim) Curtis of Bull Shoals, AR, Tabby (Doug “Mort”) Morphey of Sandwich, IL and Brenda (Dave) Reimann of Sandwich, IL; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother Earl Hitchcock of AR; several nieces and nephews; his caregiver, Tiny Hayes.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ina; his grandchildren: Tammy Hitchcock, Tracy Hitchcock, Ricky Joe McDonald and Michael Reimann; one great grandson Michael Krejci; three sisters: Clorine Lyerly, Juanita Tibbs and Margret Sullins; five brothers: George, Elmer, Nigel, Berry and Marvin Hitchcock

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL with Pastor Ivan Truman officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson Grove Cemetery Waterman, IL. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
