Gregory Alan Hanson, 70, of Somonauk, IL passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017 in his home with his family. He was born November 11, 1947 in Sandwich, IL, the son of Harold and Myrtle Wold Hanson. He married his high school sweetheart, Connie Shumway on August 14, 1971 in Sandwich, IL. Greg was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich, IL, he served as chairman on the Sandwich Community Hospital board. He served in the US Marines Reserves, prior to earning his CPA. He went on to work at Arthur Andersen Accounting Firm in Chicago for 10 years. He then pursued his dream of farming in IL, WI, and MO. Greg enjoyed playing euchre and watching the Green Bay Packers with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and boating. Although Greg was challenged with MS for 40 years, proving his strength, he never let it keep him down, always laughing, playing jokes, and never giving up.
He is survived by his wife, Connie of Somonauk; his children, Jaime Esther Hanson of Waterman, IL, Marisa Jake Medgyesi Hanson of Leland, IL, and Jess Hanson of Leland, IL; one grandson, Dominik Medgyesi; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lana Kupp.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Salem Lutheran Church in Sandwich, IL with Pastor Wayne Derber officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church, Open Door Rehabilitation Center, or the charity of choice.
