Glen Aaron Helling, 80, of Plano passed away suddenly Monday, March 1, 2021 at Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. He was born August 11, 1940 in Summersville, Missouri the son of Elmer H. and Mildred E. (Laubinger) Helling. He was united in marriage on June 10, 1958 to Darlene J. Gualandi in Belvidere, IL and spent the next 59 years happily together until her passing on October 23, 2017.
Glen loved the Lord, he was a long-time member of Plano Christian Church and Central Christian Church in Ocala, FL. Most recently he was attending the Village Bible Church in Plano, IL. Glen retired in 1998 from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Aurora, IL after working there for 39 years. After retiring he would spend the winter months residing in Ocala, FL with his wife Darlene.
Glen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, a good round of golf, racing go carts, vacationing in Canada, watching Chicago Bears Games, watching Nascar races, reading the Bible, and books on American History. He restored antique engines and would proudly display his collection. Glen was a loving husband and chose to give up many of his hobbies late in Darlene’s life to become her full-time caregiver until her death.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy (Terry) Murley of Sandwich, IL; two sons, James (Violet) Helling of Sheridan, IL and Frederick Helling of Plano, IL; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Nancy Foster of Earlville, IL, Josephine (Larry) Bolender of Holland, MI, and Betty (Avery) Tredway of Ava, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene; one daughter Cindy Clapper and her husband Lonnie; his parents; sister Vivian Cook and her husband LaVerne; sister Ethel Wilhelm and her husband George; brother-in-law Dean Foster; grandson-in-law Daniel Plowman.
Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano, IL, with Pastor Steve Lombardo officiating. Burial will be at Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, IL on Monday March 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home with service to follow.
