Gladys Deloris Hanson

December 14, 1935 — January 19, 2022

Gladys Deloris Hanson, (nee Grant), of Sandwich, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home January 19, 2022.

Affectionately called “Glady”, she was born December 14, 1935, in Blue Mound, IL, the 6th child of 11 to Orville and Sarah (nee Clark) Grant. She grew up with her siblings on their family’s farm. She attended school in Edinburgh, IL, where she enjoyed singing. She competed in the state music competition in 8th grade and placed 1st with the song, Whispering Hope.

When she was in her late teens, she moved to the Sheridan/Sandwich area. She would eventually make her permanent home in Sandwich raising her three children there. She was a “mom” to many children whom she lovingly “adopted” while working at Haskin School as well as her children’s friends and neighborhood kids alike.

She was an active and devoted member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandwich where she was a eucharistic minister, choir member, bingo assistant and baker for their Sandwich Fair stand.
Through the years, in addition to Haskin School, she worked at CTS Knights, Granny’s Restaurant, Phillips 66 and Sandwich Community Hospital. She retired on 8/31/2001 and was excited to start traveling, even taking her first airplane flight with her Best Friend & Companion, Floyd Johnson. Then 9/11 happened and her first flight had to be postponed. However, wherever she & Floyd traveled, they made it an adventure even taking her grandchildren along from time to time.

Her proudest and greatest accomplishments were her family. She put aside her own needs to help her kids & grandkids any time. She loved attending their school & sporting events through the years. She was a cub scout leader for many years. She kept a supply of candy & snacks and never failed to have bologna & cheese on hand because that is what you looked forward to when you went to “Grandma’s”. She loved her “Chicago Cubbies”, yellow roses and her backyard birds, especially cardinals.

Surviving are her children, Debra (Michael) Krafft of Princeton, IL, Robert (Terri) Hanson of Leland, IL and Rev. Dr. Mark (Sandy) Hanson of Jamestown, NY. Grandchildren, Marybeth Hanson of Little Rock, AR and Joshua (Courtney) Hanson of Bloomington, IL. Bonus Grandchildren, Robert Grey of Sycamore, IL, James (Michelle) Grey of Channahon, IL, Mandy (Corie) Flack of Comanche, IA, Richard (Elizabeth) Krafft of Prophetstown, IL, Kristine Krafft of Kewanee, IL and Melissa (Derek) Carpenter of Westchester, PA. Several Bonus Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews also survive as well as her Brothers, Fred (Julia) Grant of Walnut, IL and Clarence (Mary) Grant of Crest Hill, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Mary Dyer, Laverne Simpson, Barbara Quickle, Teresa “Bertie” Willis, Steven Grant, Geneva “Neva” Jensen, Helen “Maxine” Hughes and Doris Maxedon and her Best Friend & Companion, Floyd Johnson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandsons Joshua Hanson, Robert Grey, James Grey & Richard Krafft and her nephews, Doug Jensen & Bill Jensen.
