Gilbert (Gil) Hinman, 70, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at OSF St. Elizabeth MC in Ottawa. He was born May 8, 1954 in Du Quoin, IL. He married Linda Rhoades on December 30, 1995 in Sandwich, IL. He was the founding member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 729 in Sheridan IL. Gil was a long-time member of the Yorkville Moose Lodge #2371. He served on the Leland Fire Department for many years. Gil was well known for many things, for seventeen years he served his infamous Chops by Gil at the Lawn Tractor Poker Run in Sheridan. Gil and Linda opened and ran the Paddle In at Ayers Landing in Wedron for the last 26 years. In addition, they served dinner every Friday at the American Legion in Sheridan. Gil loved being surrounded by family, friends and serving the community.
Gil is survived by his wife, Linda Hinman, two sons, Nathan Hinman, Adam (Clair) Arnett, two daughters, Rebecca (Runt) Hinman, Tanya (Bill) Arnett, four Grandsons, Cody Arnett, Levi (Lexi) Arnett, James Hinman, Demetrius Williams III, three granddaughters, Brianne Arnett, Kurstin Wilson, Maddie (Darnell) Wilson, six Great Grandkids Liam Ellison, Stella Ellison, Karter Carlson, Charlotte Carlson, Lilith Hinman, Raven Arnett, three brothers Marvin (Marcy) Hinman, Mark (Patty) Hinman, Ray (Tracy) Hinman, three sisters Zoellen (Tom) Smith, Mildred Gort and Martha Hauck. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents, George & Mary Hinman, one brother Max Hinman, two Grandsons Demetrius Williams II and Tyler Arnett.
