Gertrude J. Dienst

Gertrude J. Dienst, 93, of Somonauk, IL passed away, Wednesday, November 2, 2011. She was born February 3, 1918 in Sheridan, IL the daughter of Bernard and Olga Johnson. She graduated from Sheridan High School and Aurora Metropolitan Business College. She married Dale W. Dienst on February 1, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk. She and Dale enjoyed traveling, especially to Norway where she has many relatives. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was active in the choir, Altar Guild, Circle and serving on several building committees. She was active in Victor Homemakers, and several senior citizen groups. She also volunteered at Fox Valley Older Adults.

She is survived by one daughter-in law, Lorraine Watkins of Waterford, WI; one granddaughter, Kristel (Josh) Phillips of Lake Geneva, WI; three great grandchildren; Phoebe, David and Chole; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnson of FL, Margaret Dienst of CA, Jeanene (Tom) Coziahr of Yorkville; brothers-in-law, Wilbur (Lois) Dienst of Kewanee, IL and Russell (Glendora) Wessels of Watseka, IL; her brother’s children, Alyson Leider of FL, Scott (Cathy) Johnson of FL, Barry (Linda) Johnson of FL, Neal (Leann) Johnson of OH; a special niece and husband, Cheryl and Ward Hearn of Somonauk and many other nieces and nephews that she was a very special Aunt to.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her foster son, Robert Watkins and brother, Ernest Johnson.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, IL. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund.
