Geraldine "Gerry" Fischer

Geraldine “Gerry” Fischer, 94, of Leland, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 in OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa. She was born July 3, 1919 in Sandwich, IL the daughter of Leslie and Viola (Schambaugh) Schaeffer. Gerry married Theodore “Ted” Fischer on March 12, 1941 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk, IL. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk and worked 33 years in the cafeteria at Leland School. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Leland and was very proud of her home town. She enjoyed having coffee every morning with other members of the community. Gerry enjoyed walking, golf, and sports in general, but was very devoted Chicago Bulls fan. Although Gerry didn’t have any children of her own she supported all her nieces and nephews and their families with all their activities.

Gerry is survived by a great niece, Wendy (Jr) Keigley of Serena; three nephews, David Logeland of Mendota, Jack (Maida) Sawyer of Delafield, WI and Tom (Vickie) Sawyer of Prescott, AZ; a niece, Suzanne (Bob) Dutton of Valley, NE and many more great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted, her sisters, Gladys Sawyer, Leota Peterson, Phyllis Logeland and a niece Dona Newlin. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk or the donor’s choice.
