Gerald E. Sampson, 86, of Leland, IL passed away, Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich. He was born April 20, 1925 on the family farm in Victor Township, Leland, he was the son of Levi Silas and Gladys Viola (Benson) Sampson. He married Carol (Cissne) Heintz at the Leland United Methodist Church.
Gerry graduated from Leland High School in 1942, upon graduation he continued to farm in rural Leland until his retirement. He was a member of the Leland United Methodist Church, DeKalb County Farm Bureau, and served as director and president of the Leland Farmer’s company. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, roller skating, meeting new people, and making lifelong friendships.
He is survived by two nephews, Larry (Marlene) Sampson and Lonny (Lee) Sampson both of Leland and two step sons, Kurt Heintz of Chicago and Glen Heintz of Leland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on October 15, 2007 and brother, Lowell Sampson.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL with Pastor Jodeen Immer officiating. Burial will follow at Leland Cemetery in Leland. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Leland United Methodist Church or DeKalb County Hospice.
