G. Frank McDowell, 87, of Leland, IL passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. He was born July 31, 1930 the son of Thomas Wayne and Stella Mae (Douglas) McDowell in Princeton, IN. He married Mary Ellen Coultrip on March 17, 1951 in Somonauk, IL. He was a proud member of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He farmed for over fifty years in Sycamore, Minnesota and Leland. He was a member of the men’s golf league at both Edgebrook and Earlville Country Clubs. He enjoyed bowling and wintering in Florida.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen of Leland; one son Frank McDowell of DeKalb, IL, one daughter Sandra Webber of Sandwich, IL; six grandchildren, Heather, Brianne, Phillip, Wesley, Sara and Megahn; seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Janet Mary in infancy; brothers, Roy and Paul McDowell; three sisters, Donna McDowell, Goldie Brooks, and Delores Todd.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL with Pastor David Kaul officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the funeral home in Somonauk, IL.
