Garretta Q. Ehmke

Garretta Q. Ehmke, 99, of Somonauk, IL, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 at Sandwich Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was born February 29, 1912 near Shabbona, IL, the daughter of James and Florence (Davenport) Little. She grew up in Lovells, Michigan and Aurora, Illinois. She graduated from Aurora East High School in 1931, and worked in the office of the Kresge 5 to 25 cent store in Aurora.
She married Walter Ehmke of Sandwich on September 27, 1940 at the home of her parents in Aurora. He passed away on October 31, 1986. They lived their entire married life on the Ehmke farm north of Somonauk. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk.

She is survived by one son, Don (Mary Ann) Ehmke of Somonauk; grandchildren, Lynette Ehmke of Houston, TX, Tim (Lori) Ehmke of Weatherford, TX; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Little of Aurora and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death her parents, her husband, Walter; one son, John Ehmke on June 13, 1979; five brothers, Earl Little, Kenneth Little, Ivan Little, Roy Little and Floyd Little; one sister, Ethel Holst and many friends.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 1, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk with Rev. Dennis Heaney officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in Somonauk. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
