Frank S. Smoczynski, 91, of Somonauk, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2015 the day before his 92nd birthday.
He was born in Chicago, IL, October 4, 1923 to Andrew and Mary Skora Smoczynski. Frank was a veteran serving in the air force during World War II. Frank married Genevieve Jean Kaminski in 1946 and they raised 5 children. During their marriage they were active members of St. Andrews Parish in Chicago. During that time, Frank worked for Borden Bowman Dairy as a milkman. His passion and skill was upholstering furniture, which he also did for a living. Frank relocated his family to Lake Holiday in Somonauk, IL in 1970 after enjoying the previous 5 years of camping and boating there on the weekends and summers. There he worked for Tri-R Vending in DeKalb, IL until his retirement in 1985. For the rest of his years he was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL. Frank continued his upholstering business for many years. Frank enjoyed volunteering in his retirement with the Fox Valley Older Adult Services and Meals on Wheels. Frank enjoyed many years of bowling and golf and many gatherings with his family. Frank and Jean enjoyed their winter months in Arizona for many years until his wife’s death in 2001. In his later years, he shared his life with Loretta Achey, who enjoyed Frank’s family for many years.
Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Jean; his son, Thomas; his parents Andrew and Mary; his brother, Joseph; his sister, Estelle Horvat; and many in-laws: Nicholas Horvat, Caroline Smoczynski, Henry Grzelak, Lottie and Al Forest, Ed Kaminski, and Ted Kaminski. He is survived by four children: Frank Cherie Smoczynski Jr. of Lisle, Sandy Tom Moomey of Sandwich, Michael Mary Smoczynski of Aurora, and Mary Kurt Roley of North Aurora, close family friend, Jim White of Boise, ID; 11 grandchildren Jeff Smoczynski, JaclynMark GarciaSmoczynski, RobinRick Beattie, Jennifer Stacey BakerMoomey, Angela DaveBalensiefen, Michael Smoczynski, Cara Smoczynski, Nikki Matt Liska, Katie Greg Weber Roley, Peter Anna Roley, Stephanie Gregory Thede and 15 great grandchildren and also many nieces and nephews who were very special to him.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
