Francis E. Johnson, 87, of Sandwich passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion in Sandwich, IL. He was born May 14, 1926 in Danway, IL the son of Edwin and Minnie (Schank) Johnson. He married Wilma Johnson on January 25, 1948 at St. Petrie Lutheran Church in Baker. Francis was a member of St. Petrie Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school. He farmed his entire life. Other jobs he had throughout his life included, bus driver, working at Kleen-Lay, driving a truck for Lowell Sampson and cleaning at both the Somonauk Bank and Yorkville Schools. He was a tireless worker.
He is survived by wife, Wilma of Leland, IL; one daughter, Pamela (Barry) Whitcraft of Leland, IL; one son, Ken (Barb) Johnson of Yorkville, IL; six grandchildren, Jeff, Dan (Kelly), Jenni, Greg (Candy), T.J. (Andrea) and Matt; six great grandchildren, Emily, Abby, Jordan, Cole, Brooke and Grayson; one brother, Roger Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Willard, Floyd, Alford, Elmer, Donald, Delbert and Earl.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Petrie Lutheran Church in Baker with Pastor Gerald Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Baker Cemetery in Baker. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the church in Baker. Memorials may be directed to St. Petrie Lutheran Church or Baker Cemetery.
