Evelyn I. Thompson, 92, of Somonauk passed away Monday, November 10, 2014 at Sandwich Nursing and Rehabilitation in Sandwich. She was born January, 5 1922 in Somonauk, the daughter of Lloyd and Rosalie (Stych) Rumney. She married Lyle E. Thompson on December 9, 1945 in Washington D.C. Evelyn was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk. She attended Somonauk schools until 8th grade. Evelyn spent her high school years in Sandwich schools. She went on to graduate from Northern Illinois University and Aurora University with degrees in education and supervision. Evelyn taught school in the Aurora School District until her retirement.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mavis Thompson of Minnesota; several nieces, nephews, many special close families, friends and faux grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Somonauk with Pastor William C. Weidenbach, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk.
