Eugene ”Gene” L. Sheeley, 79, of Yorkville, Illinois passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017. He was born July 11, 1938, in Quincy, IL the son of Elmer E. and Ethel L. Bangert Sheeley. He married Carol L. Blake on May 1, 1966, in Yorkville, IL. Gene served in the United States Navy from 1956 until 1959. He was employed by Commonwealth Edison for 35 years retiring in 1994. He was a very active member of the Kendall County Community Food Pantry. He was an avid fisherman, water skier, and downhill snow skier. Gene loved to travel, spend time with his family, and support his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Yorkville, IL; two daughters, Maureen Bryson of Union Grove, WI, and Megan Kurt Gessler of Yorkville, IL; four grandchildren, Hannah Bryson, Katie Gessler, Molly Bryson, and Jamison Gessler, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister JoAnn Dolister.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2505 Boomer Lane, Yorkville, IL, with Rev. Mike Stoner officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery Yorkville, IL. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church and on Wednesday, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at noon in the church.
