Ernest D. Lykens, 86, of Yorkville, IL, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Ada F. Addington Hospice Care Center in Chicago, IL. He was born September 25, 1930 in Birdsboro, PA, the son of Samuel and Florence Degler Lykens. Ernest graduated from Birdsboro High School in 1949. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy, serving for four years. Ernest Married Margaret Wheeler on May 14, 1951 in Pontiac, IL. He was employed by EI Du-Pont in Seneca, IL and later at Caterpillar in Montgomery, IL for 30 years, retiring in 1991. Ernest was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Yorkville, the American Legion in Yorkville and the VFW in Montgomery. He enjoyed gardening, working in the yard and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Yorkville, IL; five daughters, Peggy John Neron Ruh of Yorkville, IL, Mary J. Christopher McNelis of Wheeler, IL, Deborah Wortham of Yorkville, IL, Ann Aylward of Oswego, IL and Joni Bobby Parker of Breezy Point, MN; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Louise Bell of Birdsboro, PA; one brother, Donald Pearl Lykens of Lynnhurst, OH and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Dayle Foley, one son, John E. Lykens, twin sons in infancy and one brother, Richard Lykens.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church at 406 Walnut St. in Yorkville, IL, with Father Matthew Lamoureux, M.I.C. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Yorkville, IL. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the church in Yorkville.
