Ellen Belle Hubbard, 65, of Somonauk, IL passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 at Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, IL.
She was born June 28, 1950 in Sandwich, IL, the daughter of Lester and Gladys Woods Hubbard. Ellen was a member of Somonauk Baptist Church and attended Somonauk schools graduating in 1968.
Ellen graduated from Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, AL with double bachelor degrees in religion and music. She enjoyed teaching at Somonauk Christian and Aurora Christian schools for eight years.
Ellen went back to college at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb for her nursing degree, fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. She was employed by Delnor Hospital, Geneva and DuPage County Health Care in Wheaton for many years.
While living in St. Charles, she enjoyed cooking, baking and entertaining, putting on holiday dinners for family and friends. Being a very social person, she enjoyed the companionship of many good friends.
After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and diabetes in 1998, her life was not easy. After living in Lander, WY for a short time, she returned to Somonauk in December 2001. Her strong spirit and will enabled her to remain in her own home until the end of her life, which was of great importance to her.
Ellen loved animals. Her dog and cat made her house a home, bringing her much joy over the years. She will be deeply missed by her friends and all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Nona Collins Iverson.
Memorial services will be held at Somonauk Baptist Church on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Private burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL.
