Ella Elizabeth (Whatley) Lossett, 87, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at home. She was born April 28,1931, in Alabama, the daughter of George Leslie Whatley, Sr., and Anna Mae (Carter) Whatley. As a young child she and her family moved to New Orleans. She graduated from Capdau High School and went to work for Southern Bell in 1949 in accounting. She retired from AT&T in marketing in 1984. After retirement, she went to work as a contractor for the phone company and worked at the 1988 Republican National Convention held in New Orleans. She was a member of the Gretna United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one son, Leo L. Lossett (Paddy), one daughter, Elizabeth Lossett (David Singletary), granddaughter, Danielle Hufft (Jeffrey), grandson, Samuel Portera, Jr. (Jennifer), great-granddaughters Ella Elizabeth Hufft, her namesake, and Allison Portera. She is also survived by her poodle, Mr. Cocoa, who has been her constant companion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 55 years, Leo Alford Lossett, whom she met and loved since she was 12 and he was13 and her brother, George Leslie Whatley, Jr.
In Ella’s final months she was lovingly cared for by her Passages Hospice team, Rachel, Lakkita and Tammy.
A private interment will be held at Lake Lawn Cemetery, as well as a private celebration of Ella's life. Memorials may be directed to Jefferson Parish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. For more information or to sign the online guest book go to
