Elisabeth H. Mieland

December 10, 1940 — February 18, 2024

Elisabeth H. Mieland (Lis), 83, of Somonauk, IL passed away February 18, 2024 peacefully at her beloved Lake Holiday home with family at her side. She was born on December 10, 1940 in Oberursel, Germany. When she was a teenager she traveled to Switzerland to attended Art School. Seeking opportunities to use her creative talents, she came to the United States with her husband for a “short trip” that lasted 58 years! Together they started a family and along the way found many new friends in Chicago with the German American Singers of Chicago choir before moving to Lake Holiday. There she was a long time member of St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk and their choir. Lis also enjoyed the friends she met at the Lake Holiday Garden Club (Ladies Club) remaining a member since 1975. More recently, she was active with the Seeds and Weeds Club and the Friends of the Library(Somonauk) but she was most known for her creative talents, especially knitting and crocheting. Lis was a generous person, even in death. Her final wish was to have her body donated to science, therefore no visitation will be held.

She is survived by her son Eric (Cindy) Mieland and daughter Andrea(Tim) Barker. Her pride and joy were her four grandchildren Tiegan, Max, Morgan and Alex. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Facial Pain Research Foundation
(facingfacialpain.org) or The Open Door (odrc.org).

A memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00am on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL with a luncheon immediately following. Arrangements were entrusted to Turner-Eighner Funeral in Somonauk, IL. For more information or to sign the online guest book go to www.eighnerfuneralhomes.com
