Elaine Olsen, 81, of Lake Holiday Sandwich, IL formerly of Earlville, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. She was born April 6, 1930 in Tiskilwa, IL the daughter of Otto and Neva (Zink) Anderson. She married Harold E. Olsen on February 20, 1955 in Buda, IL. She taught music in Earlville Schools for five years then taught in Leland Schools as a Title One Reading teacher for over thirty-two years. She taught piano for several years which touched the lives of over two hundred students. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, where she played the organ for over fifty years and also served as choir director. She was active in the Book Club, Esther Circle, Seeds and Weeds, and an active member of the Ladies Club at Lake Holiday. She enjoyed music, art, sewing and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Harold; one daughter, Jean Slott of Batavia, IL; two sons, Robert Olsen and Glen Olsen both of Earlville, IL; two grandchildren, Jessica and Jake Slott of Batavia; one sister, Ruth (Jim) Henkel of Park Forest, IL and one brother, Kenneth (AnaBelle) Anderson of Princeton, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister Eleanor Voeste.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Earlville, IL with Rev. Dorothy Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow in Precinct Cemetery rural Earlville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011 at Hanley-Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Earlville, IL. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
