Edward N. Strope

Edward N. Strope, 99, of Sandwich, IL passed away, Thursday, August 15, 2013 in Sandwich. He was born in Fox, IL near Yorkville, in November of 1913, the son of James and Eva (Tripp) Strope. He followed his brothers into farming as a career. He married Burnell E. Greene from Aurora on March 10, 1937 and enjoyed married life for 72 years until Burnell’s passing in 2009.

He farmed in Wheatland Township for 20 years where he served on the school board for the Wheatland 40-C School. He was an amateur photographer and took photos of the construction of that school as well as many other community events. He did the wedding photography for many family members. A lot of his photos are available to the public on the Plainfield Historical Society website.

Edward also farmed in the Oswego and Yorkville areas for 15 years and then he and Burnell fulfilled a dream of moving to a farm in Wisconsin where they stayed for 24 years. In addition to farming in Wisconsin he sold Pioneer Seed Corn. In 1998 they moved to Sandwich, IL to be near 2 of their children.

Edward is survived by his three children, Norman (Jeanne) of Sandwich, Wanda Hanson of Sandwich and Gerald (Lynne) of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren, one cousin Marie Johnson of CA, and several nieces and nephews.

According to his wishes there will be no visitation and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL.
