E. Henry Greenstreet, 82, of Oswego, IL passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 13, 1930 in Loogootee, IN the son of Earl and Agnes (Smith) Greenstreet. He married Jean Farley on October 13, 1956 in Kaneville, IL. Henry graduated from Sandwich High School in 1948. He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and served four honorable years during the Korean War. He served on the USS Prairie and the USS Sierra in the Pacific and Atlantic and also in the Mediterranean many times. His home ports were San Diego and Norfolk. He loved fishing, golfing, and watching the Chicago Bears and Blackhawks. Henry was a member of St, Luke’s Lutheran Church in Montgomery, and the Yorkville American Legion.
Henry worked at Oatman Brothers Dairy for seventeen years making ice cream mix and was a manager at Sandwich and Amboy plants. Henry and Jean bought Foxy’s Burger Bar in Oswego and were in business for seventeen years. They sold the restaurant and Henry became a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker for 23 years until he retired in 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Jay (Daisy) of Aurora, IL and John (Kristie) of Clive, IA; one grandson, Cole, of Clive, IA, two step-granddaughters, Annabelle (Joe) Foster of Aurora, IL, Samantha Silva of New York, two great step-granddaughters Rosalyn and Madilyn of Aurora, IL; one sister, Sandra (Wayne) Larson of Kaneville, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Virginia Antrobus, Marjorie Rissman and Mary Myers; one brother, Donald Greenstreet.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 63 Fernwood Road Montgomery, IL with Reverend Peter Hoffman officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the church. Burial of his urn will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 13, 2012 at Oak Ridge Cemetery on Suydam Road in Sandwich, IL. Memorials may be directed to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Montgomery, IL. Arrangements are being handled by Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home in Sandwich, IL.
