Durward “Dewey” L. Murphy, 69, of Sandwich, IL passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. He was born December 17, 1945 in Sandwich, IL the son Durward A. and Dorothy J. (Davis) Murphy. He married Marcia Wilcoxen on July 17, 1982 in Sandwich. He attended Sandwich Schools and graduated in the class of 1964. He enjoyed spending time with and watching his grandkids especially their sports, also he enjoyed traveling and seeing the countryside. He enjoyed the Murphy family reunion in Ramsey, IL as a family tradition. Dewey was a White Sox, Chicago Bears fan and was an avid lottery player. He worked 24 years at Equipto in Aurora, drove a truck for Ruan for several years, and also worked for the Sandwich Park District. He looked forward to the gatherings with his classmates. His greatest joy of all was his family.
He is survived by one son Kyle (Sarah) Murphy of Sandwich, IL, two grandchildren, Courtney and Derek both of Sandwich; two sisters, Barbara J. (D. LeRoy) Davis of Princeton, IL and Mary Lou (LaVerne) Wilkening of Sandwich, IL; and several nieces and nephews; a special companion, Rita Jandt of Big Rock, IL and all of the Jandt Family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marcia in 1996, and his numerous pets he enjoyed.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Burkhart-Eighner Funeral Home 606 E. Arnold Rd. in Sandwich, IL. Burial follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery Sandwich. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2015 in the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
