Dorothy L. Skinner, 85, of Plano, Illinois passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in Hillside Rehabilitation and Care Center in Yorkville, IL. On April 26, 1926, she was born in rural Murphysboro, in southern Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Eva (Freres) Dietz. She married George L. Skinner in Sycamore on April 16, 1949, the weekend of an unusual heavy spring blizzard. She was a member of the Plano Baptist Church. Dorothy enjoyed helping her children with their scouting projects and also acted as a room mother for their grade school classes. She was always thinking of others, and would do anything she could to lend a hand. She was known for her love of baking. Her specialty was making cookies, which she often made for her family, friends and neighbors. Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, and always made sure to have the best after-school snacks waiting for her kids and their friends. She loved rooting for "her" Cubbies. (Maybe next year!)

She is survived by one daughter, Eva (Brad) Gardner of Plano, IL; two sons, Joe (Janet) Skinner of Roscoe, IL and Paul Skinner of Plano, IL; three grandchildren, Stephanie (Jonny Piper) Skinner, Jonathan Skinner and Emily Skinner; one sister, Rosella Gordon of Colorado, one brother; Jack (Jenny) Dietz of Arizona, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George , one son George H. Skinner and seven brothers and sisters.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service from 11:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Plano, IL with Reverend Judy Harris officiating. Burial will be private. Memorials may be directed to Hillside Rehabilitation and Care Center Yorkville, IL or Open Door Rehabilitation Center, Sandwich, IL.
